Missions and Outreach

Reaching beyond the local congregation for the purpose of fulfilling the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20) is of paramount importance to us.  We partner with mission agencies, send out our own people, and connect with indigenous peoples all over the world to accomplish this end.  Listed below are our current and retired missionaries, three local mission efforts, all as examples of how we reach out to our community and world with the love of Christ.

Three EGCC MINISTRIES have their own unique service for Christ

The Dorcas Society draws its inspiration from the Acts 9 story of a disciple named Dorcas who was “always doing good and helping the poor.”   The Dorcas Society is a ministry of women doing good work to help the poor just as Dorcas of the Bible did.  The ladies meet together  on Tuesdays from 10:30am until 2:30pm and sew many items including lap quilts, bibs, walker bags for residents of local nursing homes, and clothing.  Please contact Carol Versocki at 399-7897 if you have any questions.

The Flannelgraph Ministry provides teaching tools for missionaries.  Ladies from various churches join together on Tuesdays from 10:00am until 2:00pm to paint beautiful scenes to be used with character cut-outs to tell the stories from the Bible, such as Moses, Noah, Joseph and his brothers, the good Samaritan, and Jesus.  They also enjoy great fellowship over lunch.  Please contact Ann Van Wie at 399-5328 if you have any questions.

The Diaconate Board is responsible for ministries that enable the congregation to reach out to people in need in our church and community.

  • Assistance is provided for people who need transportation to our Sunday morning worship service, special services, Wednesday Night Program, or even doctor’s appointments.
  • Volunteers are organized to provide a dinner meals for a family with an illness or special circumstance.
  • On the last Friday of every month volunteers serve the dinner meal at the Schenectady City Mission. Also, on the fourth Sunday evening of each month the Diaconate organizes a worship service.
  • On the 5th Sunday of the month (4 or 5 times a year), the Diaconate arranges a Sunday afternoon worship time, including music, prayer and a short devotional at Baptist Health Nursing Center. The service runs from 3:00-3:30 pm, with about 30-45 minutes before and after needed for transportation. We would love to have more volunteers to help as transporters.
  • Urgent prayer requests can be called into the church office where they are passed on to the Emergency Prayer Chain, pastors and staff. If you are not currently on a prayer chain but would like to be added, please call the church office.
