Q:
What
denomination is EGCC?
A:
EGCC is associated with the Conservative
Congregational Christian Conference (the 4C's),
an evangelical, Bible-believing, Christ honoring denomination
of about 300 churches in the United States. The 4C's
roots are in the Puritan tradition of the Pilgrims.
The 4C's slogan is adopted from St. Augustine, "In
essentials, unity. In non-essentials, diversity. In
all things, charity."
Q:
What does a community church mean?
A:
EGCC being a community church means that we are a
diverse fellowship of believers from numerous denominational
backgrounds and traditions or from no former church
experience at all. We are desirous of being connected
with our local community.
Q:
What is a congregational church?
A:
Being a congregational church, we are autonomous.
We consider Christ the head of our church. There is
not any ecclesiastical hierarchy. We determine as
a local fellowship how God would have us represent
Him in the local community and around the world. We
have a strong emphasis on the priesthood of all believers,
meaning that we rely on our people to find a means
of serving God and others among us.
Q:
How
do I join your church?
A:
Everyone is welcome at EGCC, whether you've been going
to church all your life or have never gone before.
We don't place great emphasis on "joining the
church." Those who regularly worship with us
are part of our church family. They have the benefit
of all of our ministries. The membership process begins
by attending our Church 101 class in January during
the Sunday School hour (9:00 am). The class teaches
about our theology, organization, history, and our
aspirations as a church. Anyone is invited to membership
if they have made a personal commitment to Jesus as
Savior and Lord and desire to stand with the church
on the basis of what they've learned about in Church
101. But membership is not necessary to worship with
us.
