Diaconate
- The Diaconate Board reaches out to the congregation
in helpful and caring ways. The board is responsible
for ministries that enable the congregation to reach
out to people in need. Some of the ministries that
fall under the Diaconate Board are:
Transportation: The board assists people who
need a ride to our Sunday morning worship service,
special services, Wednesday Night Program, or even
doctor's appointments.
Meals: The board organizes volunteers to provide
a dinner meal for a family with an illness or special
circumstance.
City Mission: The Diaconate board serves at
the Schenectady City Mission in two ways. On the last
Friday of every month volunteers serve the dinner
meal at the Mission. Also, on the fourth Sunday evening
of each month the board organizes a worship service.
Baptist Health Nursing Center: The Diaconate
arranges a Sunday afternoon worship time, including
music, prayer and a short devotional at Baptist Health
on the 5th Sunday of the month (4 or 5 times a year).
The service runs from 3:00-3:30 pm, with about 30-45
minutes before and after needed for transportation.
We would love to have more volunteers to help as transporters.
Helping Hands: This ministry reaches out to
those who have a need around their home, such as a
small plumbing job, mowing the lawn, or moving.
Emergency Prayer Chain: The Diaconate coordinates
this ministry which mobilizes urgent prayer requests.
Prayer requests can be called into the church office
where it will be passed on to the prayer chain leaders
and staff. If you are not currently on a prayer chain
but would like to be added, please call the church
office.
R1213: This ministry connects people in need
of household items with those who can supply them.
We have connected people who have dressers, tables,
dryers, mattresses, etc. with those who need these
items. If you have an item that you wish to donate
or if you have a need for an item, please contact
the church office. Romans 12:13 "Share with
God's people who are in need. Practice hospitality."
Missions
- Reaching beyond the local congregation for the purpose
of fulfilling the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20)
is of paramount importance to us. We partner with
mission agencies, send out our own people, and connect
with indigenous peoples all over the world to accomplish
this end.
Dorcas
Society - In Acts 9, Luke tells about a disciple
named Dorcas who was "always doing good and
helping the poor." The Dorcas Society is
a ministry of women doing good work to help the poor
just as Dorcas of the Bible did. The ladies meet together
on Tuesdays and sew many items including lap quilts,
bibs, walker bags for residents of local nursing homes,
and clothing. We meet from 10:30 until 2 each Tuesday.
Flannelgraph
- This ministry provides teaching tools for missionaries.
Ladies from various churches join together on Tuesdays
from 10 am until 2 pm. We paint beautiful scenes to
be used with characters cut-outs to tell the stories
from the Bible, such as Moses, Noah, Joseph and his
brothers, the good Samaritan, and Jesus. We also enjoy
great fellowship over lunch. Come and visit us and
bring your lunch. We'll provide a beverage and, sometimes,
a surprise treat! We would like to show you our activities
and have you join us for as much or as little time
as you choose. We meet on Tuesdays from 10 am until
2 pm.
